BAE SYSTEMS GIVES LIFT TO LANCASHIRE TREE PLANTING Hundreds of trees will be planted across Lancashire this winter thanks to the genius of the Tom Tom Work vehicle tracking system and an agreement between BAE Systems and its provider of executive car and taxi services for business travel in the North West. Every year hundreds of customers and travelling employees visit the company’s Warton and Samlesbury facilities in Lancashire – many of whom are transferred by Fylde Executive Cars Ltd (FEC) whilst doing business in the area. Under a ‘carbon offset’ agreement, BAE has opted to plant trees within the areas of Company operations in Lancashire. The innovative offset scheme was developed between BAE’s Shared Services Team and FEC in a bid to reduce CO2 emissions created by road travel, not only to save to meet increasing legislation, but to also help reduce travel costs through better management of car movements and car share schemes. Funding for the scheme is covered through the management of a “rebate scheme” based on the number of journeys completed each year. Prior to the adoption of the Tom Tom Work system, the calculation of just how many miles had been clocked up relied largely on the car’s tripmeter and diligence of chauffeurs, often running several trips in a day. Now, thanks to the genius of the Tom Tom, and some sophisticated software, an exact mileage figure can be calculated for the rebate due – ring-fencing money which can ploughed back into environmental schemes. John Coombes, MD of Fylde Executive Cars said “we are thrilled that the investment we have made in these new systems has helped both reduce BAE’s travel costs and the impact that it’s business travel has on the environment. The Tom Tom system has helped this immensely whilst at the same time improving our own fleet efficiency and passenger safety – it is a thrill to now see the Trees being planted” This year between FEC and BAE Systems a total of £3365 worth of carbon offset rebate has been identified enabling FEC to continue with their tree-planting programme which has already seen 370 trees planted into the playing fields of primary schools across Lancashire. This winter the company will oversee the planting of yet another 300 native species of trees across the county. James Lancaster, a strategic planning manager for BAE Systems, said: “The use of technology is vital in the company’s bid to reduce its impact on the environment. In Tom Tom terms we may not yet have reached our destination, but, working together with suppliers such as FEC, we are certainly heading in the right direction.”

At a time that businesses of all sizes are looking to reduce costs Lancashire based Chauffeur company Fylde Executive Cars has started a new chauffeur driven shuttle service from Lancashire to the London area in direct competition to the service offered by Virgin Trains on the North West line. Managing Director of Fylde Executive Cars Ltd, John Coombes said “ With train and plane fares increasingly regularly, business travellers are now starting to feel the pinch and are now looking for alternative travel options for their day trip to London. It is with this in mind that we have now made our fleet of executive saloons and people carriers available to provide a door to door service which offers competitive pricing and unrivalled flexibility for the business traveller” A client booking an open return rail ticket from Preston Train station in Lancashire to London Euston can expect to pay on average £289.00 for a standard return ticket rising to £406.00 for a First Class return. This compares to an average price of £416 for an open ended business return ticket with British Airways flying from Manchester to Heathrow. There is no doubt that the journey time of just two and half hours on the train is appealing when comparing it to the average four hour road transfer but, ticket costs are high and rising. Taking into account the added cost of car parking or taxi transfers to/from the station or airport at both ends of the journey, budgets are really squeezed, it is no surprise therefore that budget holders are rightly looking for alternative travel options. The new service being offered by Fylde Executive Cars delivers a real saving for those companies with two or more employees travelling by train to London Euston or flying by shuttle from Manchester Airport to London Heathrow or Gatwick. The service includes the collection of passengers from their homes in Lancashire, the provision of daily newspapers and bottled water. The executive car or luxury people carrier will then drop the clients in London, remaining on call until the clients return later in the day. Clients are also able to arrange for the car to do additional transfers in London for a nominal additional fee. After a day of meetings in London the Chauffeur will then transfer you back to the North West as required or stay overnight with you in London if required. John Coombes added “We are able to transfer up to three clients in one of our Volvo and Mercedes Chauffeur cars and up to 6 people in comfort in one of our executive Mercedes or Chrysler people carriers. The flexibility of having a car collect you straight from home and transfer you directly to the door of your London destination should be an attractive option. Our Chauffeurs are professional drivers, with state of the art GPRS tracking software in the vehicle to ensure you arrive at your destination with the minimum of delay. Our drivers offer a discreet and confidential service which allows clients to discuss sensitive issues in confidence whilst travelling with us, a luxury not always possible on the train. We offer a high level of service and a significant saving on the journey costs as well” Price comparison for a Chauffeur driven car to London as an alternative to Train or Air travel from Lancashire and Manchester Airport to London: X1-3 Passengers in an executive saloon from Preston area to London area £550 return (X3 pax equiv train costs: standard £867, 1st Class £1218) X3-6 Passengers in an executive people carrier from Preston to London area £700.00 return (X6 pax equiv train costs: standard £1734, 1st Class £2436) Prices are subject to VAT at 20%. Car Parking, Toll Roads and Congestion charges will be charged at cost. Price based on a typical journey departing North West at 6am and returning at 18:00. Clients are able to pay via credit card (subject to a 5% booking fee) by creating a "dedicated user profile" at www.fyldeexecutivecars.com or account facilities are available by calling our accounts department on 01772 632020.
